Islam and Science -- Concordance or Conflict

by Professor Abdus Salam

Einstein once remarked, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." Human wisdom cannot flourish without proper understanding of both and their interaction, as so succinctly highlighted by Einstein. Dr. Abdus Salam quoted in his 'Nobel speech' from the verses of the Holy Quran at a time when it was a taboo to mention religion in scientific circles. He said, "The creation of Physics is the shared heritage of all mankind. East and West, North and South have equally participated in it. In the Holy Book of Islam, Allah says, 'Thou seest not, in the creation of the All-merciful any imperfection, Return thy gaze, seest thou any fissure. Then Return thy gaze, again and again. Thy gaze, Comes back to thee dazzled, aweary.'" (Al Quran 66:4-5)

Journey of Man: A Genetic Odessy

DNA is more than 99% similar among all humans, so all claims for discrimination, like caste system, polygenetic theory of human origin or some people being the 'chosen people' are only self indulgence. There is very little difference in the intellectual abilities of different races or families. The Journey of Man is a documentary by Spencer Wells, talks about our evolution, our recent history, and how we came to be to the way we are today. The story starts when ancestors of San bushman in Kalahari Desert in Namibia started migrating out of Africa some 50,000 years ago. The findings and data discussed in this documentary are in line with the Universal Brotherhood as expressed in the Quranic verse, "O mankind, We have created you from a male and a female; and We have made you into tribes and sub-tribes that you may know one another." (Al Quran 49:14) The documentary can be watched on

The Most Dynamic Denomination of Islam in Modern History

Wolfgang Bruno - 5/12/2007

“The Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam is a religious organization, international in its scope, with branches in over 178 countries in Africa, North America, South America, Asia, Australasia, and Europe. At present, its total membership exceeds 200 million worldwide"

There are movements within Islam, or groups of people who at least identify themselves as Muslims, that are indeed somewhat more tolerant and less violent that mainstream Muslims. One such movement is the Ahmadiyya community.

Muslims Preach a Message of Peace

Tens of thousands of Muslims from around the world journeyed to an East Worldham farm last weekend for the annual Jalsa Salana gathering. The Ahmadiyya Muslim convention, which saw 40,650 Muslims from 85 countries pledge to stand firm against the threat of extremism, was a three day peace rally screened live around the world on TV from Oaklands Farm.

It marked the 100th anniversary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community – a branch of the faith distinct from other Muslims in that it believes the second coming of Christ was fulfilled in the person of Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, an Indian religious figure who lived from 1835 to 1908.

Ahmadiyya Muslims follow one worldwide spiritual leader, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, who addressed the convention on four occasions.
